From Unveil to Untangle
Unveil invited us to rediscover, untangle invites us to act. UNTANGEL- slowly shifting from rediscovering, understanding, questioning to responsibility. This is a call to action by untangling the chaos we have collectively created physically and spiritually. This year as part of the Lungta Festival, Her Expression opens the second phase Untangle: From Rediscovery to Social Responsibility.
Every voice has the power to create change. A painting, an installation, a song, a conversation, or even the choices we make every day, are pieces of the community’s story. Often times, it takes courage to take a step to bring an idea to life. Art is the most innate nature in every one, and that is what makes every creation unique. Art allows us to slow down, learn to see things with a wide lens and certainly we can change.
Her Expression celebrates the heART of women tapping into their limitless potential. Held annually under the patronage of Her Majesty, the exhibition honors a legacy of grace, wisdom, and leadership that continues to shape the lives of Bhutanese women.
It is Her Majesty’s unwavering support for the arts that gives this platform its strength and purpose.
Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen graced the inauguration of the Her Expression Vol. IX on 4 June featuring 73 women artist and 104 artworks from girls and women from different background across Bhutan and internationally.
This is more than a show of artworks. It’s a gathering. Women painters, sculptors, photographers, performers, hobbyist, singers and first-time creators come together to share what they see, feel, and question. Confidence falters without exposure, and opportunities are a rarity. Her Expression aspires to shift that balance, to be a deliberate, welcoming ground for experimentation, learning, and a shared experience.
The month-long festival has offered the people an exciting world of art to experience joy. With colors of flowers, umbrellas, artworks, music and weekend activities, it has created an open space for families to spend meaningful moments. More than a festival, Her Expression has transformed an art centre, a public road and a garden into a shared creative open space. Together, inviting each on to join together to create an experience of reflections- on one’s spiritual practice, sustainability, values, commitments while engaging with the different elements of the festival.
The weekend activities with 10 stalls hosted by women artists and a CSO- Nazhoen Lamtoen with exciting engaging activities for everyone from printing your own lungta, book marks, origami, crochet, face painting to supporting a child. Walking along the park offering a selection of food vendors and music to ease the day and into the night. The Her Expression festival has engaged with the natural environment to enjoy and appreciate the value art brings in the community’s well-being
As is often heard from the visitors, it is like a slice of heaven. The ability to untangle every moment reminds us that change in any form does not begin with grand gestures. It sure can begin by recognizing, then reflecting and then taking action. Our Lungta is the aspiration we send out and Untangle is asking us if our words, thoughts and actions are in alignment.
